Snow Removal

Congratulations to Marni and Craig Zamzow on the birth of their daughter.  Marni will be away on maternity leave until March 2007.  Theresa Redman has been hired to replace Marni as recreation programmer.  Contact Theresa through the Municipal Office for recreation programming information or ideas.

Minitonas Community Newsletter

There has been substantial snowfall this winter.  The Town only has a backhoe and a snow blower and relies on Manitoba Highways and the Rural Municipality of Minitonas for most of its snow removal.  Generally we have been able to keep up with timely snow removal.  Thank you to Merv Leslie, William Pogue, Bob Eisner, Colin Eisner, Arnie Pederson and his Manitoba Highways Staff.  With the anticipated arrival of spring thaw and significant amount of snowfall, the Town will carefully monitor run off from the melting snow.  Citizens are urged to take precautionary measures such as removing snow from roofs and along walls and window wells, as well as monitoring the melting snow and runoff on their properties.

Public Meeting with RCMP

A public meeting was held in the Town Hall on March 13, 2006.  Staff Sergeant Mike McTaggart and Corporal Dave Bettesworth represented the RCMP.  Approximately 20 citizens were in attendance.  Statistics represented indicated that we enjoy a relatively quiet community.  Citizens voiced their concerns, which resulted in good discussion.  If citizens notice any unusual activity they are encouraged to contact the RCMP at 734-3454.

Community Prayer Breakfast - April 8

The Churches of Minitonas, in cooperation with Town Council, are hosting the third annual Community Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at 8:00 a.m. in the Town Hall.  Guest speaker will be Dennis Kalynuk.  Tickets available at the Municipal Office.

Library Update

The Library was officially opened at the new location on February 6, 2006.  The former bank building was constructed in 1906, so it is significant that one hundred years later we opened the new library facility at the historic location.  Councillor Connie Waito chaired the opening with participation by Barb Holms (Chair of the Library Committee), MLA Rosann Wowchuk, Reeve Mike McIntosh, Councillor Dan Klekta (representing Parkland Library), Dave Kurtz (representing LP Canada Ltd.), Ray Holms (representing the Reta Holm Family), and Mayor Barkowski who acknowledged the large number of persons who had made this project a reality.  Barb Holms cut the ribbon held by Librarian Betty MacCumber and Parkland Library Representative Dan Klekta, officially opening the Minitonas Library at its newly renovated location.  Approximately 80 people enjoyed the luncheon hosted by the Town and prepared by Herb Hoehne.  Citizens are encouraged to come and tour the new facility and use its resources.
