Swan River Today
Swan River was founded as a farming community and remains largely agricultural to present day. The farms are much larger scale operations these days.
Since the opening of a new oriented strand board plant East of Minitonas in the spring of 1996, the forestry industry has become a main stay in the Swan River economy. In 1998 Swan River was named the FOREST CAPITAL OF CANADA.
Swan River has been growing since the pioneers founded it in the late 1800's and it continues to grow to this day. In 1993, Swan River was ranked 10th in Manitoba for Economic Development in Rural Areas.
